Consumer Data Right (CDR) at Sumo Power

Putting your energy data back in your hands.

What is the Consumer Data Right?

The Consumer Data Right (CDR) is an Australian Government initiative that gives you more control over your energy data. It lets you choose to safely share certain information about your Sumo Power electricity account with accredited third parties—like comparison services, budgeting apps, or other retailers—so they can provide you with personalised insights or offers.

At Sumo Power, we’re a Data Holder under the CDR. That means we securely provide your eligible data when you authorise us to do so.

What Data Can Be Shared?

When you give consent through an Accredited Data Recipient (ADR), we may share certain categories of information, including:

  • Your customer details (name, contact information)
  • Account information (account status, tariff type)
  • Metering data (interval usage data)
  • Billing and payment information (charges, concessions, discounts)
  • Plan and product details (fees, contract terms, solar feed‑in arrangements)

We only share data after you authorise it, and only with accredited organisations approved by the ACCC.

Your Privacy & Security

Your privacy is central to how Sumo Power participates in the CDR.

When you authorise data sharing:

  • You choose who receives your data
  • You choose what data is shared
  • You choose how long the sharing lasts
  • You can withdraw consent at any time through the accredited provider

We will never share your data without a valid, active consent.

How Data Sharing Works

You start the process with an Accredited Data Recipient. They will:

  1. Ask you to select Sumo Power as your electricity retailer
  2. Redirect you to our secure authorisation service
  3. Ask you to confirm the data you want shared
  4. Request your authorisation to proceed

Once authorised, we share your data securely through the CDR ecosystem.

Managing Your Authorisations

You can view, manage, or withdraw your CDR authorisations at any time through the accredited provider you gave consent to. If you withdraw consent, Sumo Power immediately stops sharing your data.

Sumo Power’s CDR Policy

Our CDR Policy explains:

  • How we handle your data
  • How authorisations work
  • How to make a complaint
  • How your privacy is protected
  • How we meet our obligations as a Data Holder
